Must-see video. The absolutely stunning beauty of Lake Baikal and its shores.... some truly unique landscape not found anywhere else in the world, except in Siberia. Svyatoy Nos ('Holy Cape') is a large peninsula on the eastern edge of Lake Baikal, Eastern Siberia, in the Barguzinsky District of the Republic of Buryatia. It is part of the Zabaykalsky (Trans-Baikal) National Park. "Svyatoy Nos" (Святой Нос) means 'Holy Cape' in Russian. Russian explorers in the 17th and 18th centuries used the word нос nos in the meaning 'cape' (metaphorically based on 'nose'). The name Svyatoy Nos originally referred to the southwestern cape of the peninsula (Мыс Нижнее Изголовье), and a (now abandoned) village on that cape. Then the name passed on the whole territory of the peninsula. In the Buryat language, the peninsula is called Hilmen Hushun, which means "sturgeon's muzzle". The peninsula consists of two very distinct parts: a large rocky mountainous "island" (Svyatoy Nos proper), and a swampy low-lying land bridge, the Chivyrkuisky Isthmus, which connects the peninsula to the mainland. Just a few millennia ago, Svyatoy Nos was an island. The isthmus was formed by sediments from the Small Chivyrkuy and Barguzin rivers on the mainland, and dust carried by wind, dividing the strait between the island and the mainland into two bays, Chivyrkuisky Bay on the northeast and Barguzinsky Bay on the southwest. The "island" part of the peninsula is spearhead-shaped, 35 miles long and 12.5 miles wide, with a sharp tip at 53.49481°N 108.51728°E pointing southwest and a more blunt point at the other end. A mountain ridge runs the whole length of the island; the highest point is the flat peak of Mount Markova (altitude: 6161 feet) at 53.6334°N 108.8075°E, a popular hiking destination with a scenic view of most of Lake Baikal. The west side of the ridge starts with a low cliff all along the shore and then rises towards the crest in a single general slope, cut by many valleys. The eastern side is more irregular, with some flat areas next to the shore in the middle part, and some broad low-lying valleys in the northeast. Snake Bay is a three-pronged 3.7 mile wide branch of Chivyrkuisky Bay which breaks the outline of the island at that point, pushing the shore 2.5 miles to the west. The Svyatoy Nos ridge is roughly parallel to the Academician underwater ridge, which separates Lake Baikal into northern and southern basins and rises above the water level at the Ushkan Islands and the Olkhon Island. A large number of brooks flow down both sides of the ridge. The largest, the Krestovskaya River, flows into Snake Bay at 53.748370°N 109.04189°E. The Burmuy River runs south-east into Arangatuy Lake on the isthmus. The sand of Marokov Beach is said be "singing", due to the sound made by walking on it. The peninsula has more than a hundred hydrothermal springs and small mud volcanoes, with various temperatures up to 85 °C. On the isthmus, the springs create many shallow brackish ponds, generally round or oval. The Zmeyevaya sulfurous springs are on the northern end of Snake Bay. The Big Ushkan Island is located about 6 miles northwest of the peninsula. There are seven islands in Chivyrkuisky Bay. The largest and southernmost one is Great Baklany with a size of around 4,265 feet by 525 feet, located about 3.7 miles north of the isthmus, 3.7 miles east of the Svyatoy Nos "island", and 2.5 miles west of the mainland. The central part of the "island" part of the peninsula belongs to the zone of high-altitude tundra. The area is forested with birch, larch, pine, and rhododendrons. There are three small settlements on the Peninsula, all on the west shore of Chivyrkuisky Bay. The largest is Kurbulik at 53.70649°N 109.04083°E, with about a hundred residents. The other two settlements, further south, are Katun at 53.67772°N 109.02646°E and Monakhovo at 53.66958°N 109.00625°E. There is also a place called Glinka near the shore of Barguzinsky Bay, about 0.6 miles southwest of the isthmus (53.59576°N 108.84879°E), with some tourist lodging. which is the start of a popular hiking trail to the top of Mount Markov. The nearest significant town is Ust-Barguzin, located on the mainland shore, at the mouth of the Barguzin River, just south of the isthmus. The Peninsula was once a cult place of Buryat shamans. A luxury hotel was built at Glinka in 1989. It was built of wood over a base of stone and cement. However the wooden structure was destroyed by fire just after it opened, and only the stone base and some marble stairs remain. In 1981 Aeroflot Flight 498 en route from Severomuisk to Ulan-Ude crashed into the Svyatoy Nos ridge, at an altitude of 4,265 feet, while trying an emergency landing at an airfield in the nearby urban locality of Ust-Barguzin, killing all 48 people on board. At the time, it was the 30th worst accident in Russian aviation history.

Especially when you’re fishing and so close to the water. The marine world is packed full with all sorts of crazy, unexpected creatures that could easily turn a nice day of fishing into a shocking and unforgettable experience. Sharks, snakes, killer fish, you name it. This is 100M, and today, we are going to show ten shocking fishing moments caught on camera. Make sure you stick around to the very end to see how ignoring advice and common sense almost cost this man his life. Let’s go a-fishing! #10 Sewer Fishing How crazy can fishing get? This kid in Katy, Texas, will be able to tell you all about crazy and unusual fishing. This teenager named Kyle Naegeli discovered one of the oddest fishing holes you could ever possibly think of; a sewer. Kyle did his sewer fishing just on the sidewalk near his house. How? 16-year-old Kyle would bait a fishing hook, as you do, and put it through a hole in the manhole cover that covers the storm or sewer drainage, whatever you want to call it. He would attach a cork to the line to prevent the line from falling in and now, get this...after waiting for a bit, he would actually catch fish. A rather shocking thing but thinking about it, made a lot of sense. The storm drains in the town emptied into a nearby pond. Often, the fish would swim up the sewer system which in turn created an unexpected fishing hole. Kyle claimed that he did not eat the fish but, in fact, he just put them back in the water and let them return home. How sweet of Kyle. #9 Carp Attack A couple of guys went out in the water to catch some fish. Obviously, that’s how it’s done so what’s so shocking about this? You just hang on. These guys were on the water for quite a bit and honestly, they got tired of waiting around. Not a single catch for the hours they had been out there in their boat so they decided they would head back to land. As their engine revved up to life and they start zooming out of the water, something insane happened. It was like all of a sudden, the fish in the water were intoxicated on something. They started jumping, literally, out of the water, and many of them landed directly in the boat. It was like the fish were doing their work for them by launching themselves into the boat. Imagine the surprise on these guys’ faces. Scientists have actually explained this phenomenon. The carps are actually not trying to be aggressive in any way. It turns out that the sound and vibration of the boat engines frighten them so much that they start to jump. Kind of put things in perspective doesn’t it? #8 Lungfish Fishing The African Lungfish is one of the most amazing types of fish you could ever possibly encounter. These creatures are amazing because unlike hundreds of other fish out there, they are amphibious. This means that they can survive on land and in water. The kind of climate that South Africa experiences can sometimes get so hot that small water bodies end up drying up. While other fish in the water bodies die out in such conditions, the lungfish have no problem adapting. However, being exposed like that is a doorway for predators and the harsh sun to catch and kill them. A couple of fishermen targeted this dried-up water body in hopes of catching some lungfish but these fish are rather brilliant. They would sink into the mud and bury themselves there with the help of a mucus- like substance that oozes out of their bodies. Since they can breathe just fine, they stay there until the water comes back, feeding on their own muscle tissue for nutrients. They can stay hidden in the mud for up to four years and these opportunistic fishermen could try to lure them out with bait on a stick shoved into the mud. Most times, they successfully lure out these hiding fish. So, if you ever want to go fishing for these African lungfish, all you might need are a stick and some bait shoved into the mud. Easy peasy. #7 Piranha Frenzy If you have seen the 2012 horror movie, “Piranha 3DD” or even the earlier 70s and 80s versions, then you know that the word Piranha is often associated with death and blood and gore and you get the idea. Although those movies did overdo it with the effects and the whole killer piranha shindig, they were not so far from the truth. This man was fishing in the Amazon River and lowered live bait into the water. In only a few seconds, a piranha feeding frenzy began. The word “frenzy” obviously doesn’t mean anything good but with these fish, the word takes on a whole different meaning.

In this podcast episode, I talk to Karl Bushby, a former paratrooper, author, and current legend of exploration & adventure. In 1998, Karl left his home in the UK to begin the epic Goliath Expedition. Originally a 12 year plan to walk around the world, 23 years and plenty of close encounters with death later, he's still going, and is nearing the home straight. The Goliath Expedition has two rules: 1. He can only travel on foot, no transport. 2. He won't return home to the UK, until he arrives there on foot, as planned. During his already 30,000+ mile stroll, he's crossed the Bering Strait on foot, and the Darien Gap, two amazing yet deadly experiences that we discuss in detail. On orders from Heinrich Himmler, the Nazis abducted children from Poland for forced Germanization. Hermann Lüdeking, Jozef Sowa and Alodia Witaszek have never met, but they shared the same fate. Tears still come to Jozef Sowa’s eyes when he talks about his life. His parents were murdered by Wehrmacht soldiers in Poland in 1943, and he and his four siblings were taken to Germany. Four of them managed to return to Poland. But his younger sister Janina was given up for adoption - as a supposedly German child. She still lives in Germany today. This kidnapping was planned. In 1941, Himmler, who headed the Nazi SS, gave the order to "gather young children who are especially racially suitable from Polish families and for us to raise them in special modestly-sized kindergartens and children’s homes." Professor Isabel Heinemann explains, "By so doing, he aimed to build up the German race." For years, the historian has been researching the fates of the estimated 50 thousand children in Europe who were snatched. The largest group comes from Poland. Without their biological parents to protect them, the children were given to German families by the "SS Race and Resettlement Main Office." Their names and dates of birth were changed to obscure their true identity. After the war ended, those whose origins could be traced returned to their homelands. But their native countries had often become foreign to them and being singled out as a German "Hitler child" made reintegration difficult. Those responsible for the kidnapping were never brought to justice. DW Documentary gives you knowledge beyond the headlines. We're back with another baller range of whiskies the big guy is dying to try. The Covid-19 pandemic hit just days before we were supposed to host our first-ever Rare & Old Whisky Festival. We were gutted to have to pull the plug, but it was the right decision, and it will likely be next winter before we return to sit-down in-store, let alone festival-style tasting... but we've still had some fun, and will continue to. There are more than a few old and rare whiskies we want to taste, and we know we are not alone in this. The first "Rare & Old: Things Andrew Wants to Try" tasting was a hit. So we are following it up by taking things to a whole other level, with "Really Rare & Old: Things Andrew Wants to Try". This time our range includes: XOP Port Ellen 35 Year, XOP Blacks a 30-year-old Glenrothes, North of Scotland 50 Year & Teaninich 45 Year, as well as the official Rosebank 30 Year, Johnnie Walker Bicentenary Blend & Arran 25 Year. In all, nearly 250 years of whisky worth north of $13K+gst, including 2 closed-ish distillery drams. Original Event Date: 7 PM Thursday, July 22

One thousand years before the Holy Prophet, the king of Yemen was Taba Khomeri, who once went out to visit his empire, took twelve thousand scholars and rulers and one hundred and thirty thousand riders, one hundred and thirteen thousand infantry with him. When the king came to Mecca on his way to Mecca, when no one came from Mecca, no one came to see him. The king was surprised and asked his prime minister why he said that there is a house in the city called Baitullah, and all the people are very honored by him and his servants who live here. Your army is farther and farther away than this, people come to visit this house and serve the residents here, then why do you think their army. When the king heard this, he became angry and swore that he would dig the house and kill the inhabitants. It was said that the king's nose and mouth began to bleed and it smelled bad. The substance started flowing that he did not even have the ability to sit. The disease was cured but did not develop. In the evening, the king came to the Almighty, one of the scholars and saw the pulse and said, the disease is heavenly and the cure of the earth. It is happening, O king! If you have a bad intention, repent to him immediately; the king repented of his intention with regard to Baitullah Sharif and the Kadam Ka'bah in his heart; when he repented, his blood and substance stopped flowing, and Then in happiness of health, he offered a silk gown to Baitullah Sharif, and offered to every inhabitant of the city seven silver and seven silk joints. Then, from here, he reached Madinah, and the scholars who were scholars of Samaria smelled the soil and saw the pebbles and migrated to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), according to the signs he had read. When we found this land, we made a pledge that we would die here, but we would not leave this land. If our destiny did not happen, sometimes when the Prophet would finally visit us, he would also visit us. Will be honored otherwise our holy graves will occasionally fly the sacred dust of their shoes which is sufficient for our salvation. Upon hearing this, the king built four hundred houses for these scholars and built a two-storeyed house for the Holy Prophet's house in the presence of the Holy Prophet and will, when you visit him, will make this house yours. He rested and provided enough financial support of the four hundred scholars and said that you should stay here and then wrote a letter to this great scholar and said, "This letter of my Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) served in Quds." Offer and if you do not have the opportunity to visit the Holy Prophet in a lifetime, then advise your children that they will preserve my letter by lineage even if The king left, saying that the government should be presented in the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). How did that letter come about a thousand years after the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and what was written in the letter? Listen and see the glory of the Holy Prophet: The inferior creature by the first khumri Shafi'a al-Muzaffin Syed al-Mursalin after the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh): O Lord of Allah! I believe in you and I believe in the book which will be revealed to you and I am in your religion, so if I had the opportunity to visit you then it would be great if I did not visit you. If you could intercede with me and do not forget me on the Day of Resurrection, I am one of your first people and pledge allegiance to you before you arrive. I testify that Allah is One and that you are the Truth. Are messengers. " King Yemen's letter came to be preserved safely within the four hundred scholars of Haraj-Jan, even after a thousand years had passed, and the descendants of these scholars increased at a time when the population of Madinah increased manifold. The letter went to Hazrat Abu Ayub Ansari, one of the descendants of this great scholar of will, and you placed the letter in the custody of his slave, Khalil Abu Laili, and when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came to Medina Migrate and bid farewell to Madinah, your camels appear from the gorges of the peninsula, and the happy people of Medina welcome the beloved God. Someone was decorating his house and somebody was cleaning the streets and roads and somebody was arranging the feast, and everyone was insisting that the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) visit my house.
