In this Classic Pistol Review I'm taking a look at the pistol that launched Sturm Ruger & Co. The Ruger Standard .22 pistol was the first firearm ever designed by Bill Ruger, and in this video we'll examine it up close. Then we're off to the range for some shooting. Check out the video to learn more about this iconic handgun.
🤍 MK1 was the first target auto Ruger made. They are tack drivers. It is the gun that put High Standard out of the auto target pistol Biz. As well as Colt. It was cheaper and better over all. Rugged and reliable. Rain dust and poor up keep and cheap ammo would not stop it. The gun that cost less was the winner in the end.
Why my 1965 Ruger Standard is the Crappiest gun I own. These are commonly called MK1 pistols but the Mark I was a revision of the Standard Design. The standard is not a great name for a gun but remember at the time Ruger only made one gun and this was it's standard configuration until the MK 1 target model was introduced. Cary's acquisition of the fine Ruger Mark 1 22 Semi-Auto pistol in almost new condition probably manufactured in the late 60s or early 70s was a wonderful event for him. And he shares this pistol with us today...It's the 5 1/2 inch bull barrel target model...
Ruger Mark I and Mark II magazine compatibility. Depending on the manufacture date of your Ruger Mark I the magazines may or may not be a direct swap with the Mark II series. In 1971 the dies used for stamping the frames were replaced due to wear, when Ruger did this they updated the design by changing the side that the magazine follower button is on. Mark I pistols made after this change can use Mark II magazines. The stamping A-100 under the left grip indicates a 1971 or later Mark-I with the updated frame, these will share a magazine with the Mark-II, without magazine modification. If your Mark I is a pre 1971 model then you can still use a Mark II magazine by moving the follwer button to the other side. To move the follower button on a Mark II magazine you must remove the base by deptressing a recessed plunger and sliding it off. Lower the follower to the release point and pull the button, simple relocate to button to the desired side and reassemble. The original Mark I magazine is simpler to modify to fit the Mark II. No disassembly is required, simply compress the spring far enough to release the follower button. Other differences are the Mark II magazine has a 10 round capacity while the Mark I is 9 rounds. The Mark II has a bolt catch that holds open when the magazine is empty, which the Mark I does not do. This video demonstrates the compatibility of the magazines as well as magazine conversion and modification. The Mark II shown is a Stainless Steel model with a 4.75" barrel. The Mark I shown has been parkerized and has a 6" barrel. The Ruger Standard, Mark I, Mark II, and Mark III are semi automatic pistols chambered for 22 LR (22 Long Rifle). 🤍mainejunker.com 🤍youtube.com/mainejunker

This process works on all Mark series guns, even the current Mark III and 22/45 Lite (note that magazine disconnect, if present, will slow you down but procedure still works). These pistols are often ignored due to their infamously difficult reassembly. In this video we will demonstrate a step-by-step process to disassemble and reassemble this pistol without the nightmares (I will show reassembling the action in just 16 seconds!) This is not an exact replica but certainly more practical given it can accept any standard 1/2x28" thread mount suppressor. The Standard Auto may not have been the best choice given the lack of a last round bolt hold open feature on these early guns from the 60s, but it is still fun nonetheless. we may put together a more true copy in the future. In this video I modify Ruger Mark I-II and III magazines to hold 11 rounds using a tip suggested by ccsjl1. 🤍 Then I use another tip suggested by Tony Adams to mod the Ruger Mark I magazine latch so that you can use Mark III magazines. 🤍
