The Music of Nature proudly presents "American Woodcock," a video portrait of an American Woodcock giving it's nasal "peent" calls at dusk. Notice the subtle throat sound that immediately precedes each peent. At the end, he takes flight and you can hear the high-pitched twittering of his wings, a sound made by modified wing feathers. © 2009 Lang Elliott, musicofnature.org Videotaped by Lang Elliott in April 2009, near Ithaca, New York Many thanks to all those who helped: Bob McGuire, Beth Bannister, Becca Harber, David Werier, and Sarah Brown.
Woodcocks are an unusual patient here at the Wildlife Aid hospital, so our vets Emma and Maru were quite impressed by this lovely bird. It was brought in after flying into a window, but luckily Emma and Maru found nothing wrong with it (apart from a likely headache!). After a few days rest at the hospital to monitor it, Simon was able to release the woodcock in an ideal location, where it seemed more than happy to hop off into its new home! A day at the woodcock with my springer spaniels. The day started off dry but soon changed to rain and wind making for an interesting day. The retrieves the dog got on some of the birds were very good but to see him recover the last bird was incredible as i had given up hope of finding it. I had the camera off when i seen trigger coming out behind me with the bird it truly was a day to remember. The camera is a Gopro hero 7 black settings 1080p 50fps on Linear Fov

We're on Scotland's Black Isle for a woodcock shoot, but we're not doing things the traditional British way this is an Italian job, with setters with bleeper collars indicating the presence of this revered bird. This is no grouse moor there's awkward cover and bogs underfoot. And it's the last days of the season, so we face a race against time to get some woodcock shooting action on camera.
I don't know why the Woodcock crossed the road, but they sure do it with panache! The song "Limbo Rock" immediately popped into my head as I watched these adorable birds dance across the road. This instrumental version was first recorded by The Champs in 1961. When I was a kid, I loved the vocal version recorded in 1962 by Chubby Checker. Enjoy!

The American Woodcock (Scolopax minor) is a charming and well-loved shorebird of the inland forests. In early Spring, woodcocks venture out into clearings and the males call to the females, and engage in fantastic display flights. I am not yet able to video the flights - but here is a male Woodcock calling to attract a mate from Nashville just a couple of weeks ago, on Feb 24, 2021. I hope you enjoy it! Woodcock activities, turning eggs, re-building nest, chasing away predators To those woodcock and grouse lovers, welcome to some amazing footage of woodcock being woodcock. I don't know of anyone in my lifetime that ever viewed a hen woodcock turning her eggs, rebuilding her nest or chasing a ground mole away from her nest but you are about to see it now. This eight and a half minute video was filmed by professional wildlife photographer, Gerald Krausse of Kingston, RI. Gerald lives less then three miles from our Peace Dale Shooting Preserve and during the spring and summer of 2012, Gerald spent over a hundred hours filming the daily traits, nesting habits and brood activities of six separate (nesting) of woodcock and one turkey. Gerald spent many (eight to ten hour) days sitting inside a camo blind set up in nesting areas. Many, many more hours were spent filming the growth of woodcock chicks during the first weeks of their lives. Gerald has traveled hundreds of miles filming wildlife activities such as drumming grouse. Gerald's ultimate goal is to film the actual hatching of woodcock and grouse chicks. From what I have seen of Gerald's determination, he will succeed in that venture but he needs everyone's help by contacting him when ever anyone finds a grouse or woodcock on a nest. The time involved and distance to be traveled would mean nothing to Gerald. He needs your help to capture even more wildlife activities so next spring, if you find a nesting bird, know the drumming place of a grouse, or any wildlife activity, please call Gerald at the number listed at the end of the video.
Charlie Jacoby enjoys a couple of days shooting wild birds in Cornwall and West Devon. ST. ANTHONY — Kay Woodcock was not expecting to become so emotional during Chad Daybell’s arraignment Wednesday morning. Woodcock traveled from Louisiana to St. Anthony on the one year anniversary of her grandson, Joshua “JJ” Vallow, being found buried in Daybell’s backyard with his sister, Tylee Ryan. The grieving grandmother sat on the first row of the courtroom next to Colby Ryan, JJ and Tylee’s older brother. When Daybell pleaded not guilty to eight felony charges, including murder and conspiracy to commit murder, Woodcock started to cry and grabbed Ryan’s hand. “I didn’t expect it. As with all this, is comes over in a wave of emotion and it just makes it more real,” she said after the hearing. “It just seemed surreal for a long time and as you accept it more and more, things just get to be more real.” RELATED | Chad Daybell pleads not guilty to murder and other charges Daybell and his wife, Lori Vallow Daybell, were indicted by a grand jury May 24. They are also charged in connection to Chad Daybell’s first wife, Tammy Daybell. Three of Chad and Tammy’s children sat behind their father during the arraignment and quickly left the courthouse following the hearing. Several police officers, detectives and other investigators were in the courtroom along with a few members of the community. Daybell wore a white shirt and tie and repeatedly said, “Not guilty” as Judge Steven Boyce read him the charges. “It’s hard. It’s really hard,” Ryan said afterward. “Seeing him, knowing he did it and knowing everything about the truth – this whole process is really hard. We’ve all had to go through it but he’s going to say what he’s going to say. He’s going to lie about it. From the beginning, they have lied. There’s nothing you can do about it.” Ryan says he has spent the past year focusing on the positive and trying to remember happy times with his siblings – the normal days, swimming in the summer, hanging out together and laughing. “I was just thinking about all the good times we’ve had. That’s all we can hold on to and remember. You don’t want to have all your memories be bad and you don’t want all your memories be about them being gone,” he explains. A hearing will be held June 23 to set a trial date for Daybell. Lori Vallow Daybell has been declared incompetent and her proceedings are on hold until she is deemed fit for trial. Woodcock is pleased proceedings are finally moving forward in Chad Daybell’s case and plans to be there every step of the way. “I’m glad we’re moving on to the next step. Hard to believe it’s one year to the day where we found out they were for sure dead and (the police) unearthed them in (Daybell’s) backyard,” Woodcock says. “I think he should just give it up. How do you have two kids in your backyard and you don’t know anything about it. He’s a liar. He’s a liar.”
When searching for food, woodcocks will often walk with a funny ‘bob’ that resembles a dance. It is thought that this motion of rocking the body back and forth while stepping heavily with the front foot causes worms to move around in the soil, making them more easily detectable. This funny dance-like movement is also part of the male’s courtship display. Watch and subscribe please.
